A new chapter begins for dilapidated old houses in Ballinasloe – Connacht Tribune – Galway City Tribune:

Plans to redevelop a row of empty terraced houses and a famous former bar will breathe new life into Ballinasloe.
Ballinasloe Borough Cathaoirleach Councilor Dermot Connolly (SF) said Galway County Council had shown vision by buying seven terraced houses along Dunlo Hill, along with the closed Dooley’s Bar on the corner of Dunlo Hill and Dunlo Street.
Local authority plans for the site will rejuvenate this street and give a boost to the whole city in East County Galway.
Liam Hanrahan, director of services for housing, economic, rural and community development, confirmed to the Connacht Tribune that the local authority had purchased seven two-storey homes, a three-storey basement – formerly Dooley’s Pub – and a another adjacent three-storey building. for a total of €390,000.
“The tender for the design team has gone out in conjunction with another infill development at Ballinasloe and this team is currently being appointed to present planning for Part 8 for 12-15 units – a mix one and two bedroom units. We are looking at what can be done with the pub unit, a sheltered space, as a community center or other town center use,” he said.
